The cemetery interment records for the City of Galveston at Rosenberg Library include an entry for one William Fairweather, a 34-year-old native of Texas, who drowned on September 7, 1864. He was buried the following day at Potter's Field, the traditional burying ground for indigents and travelers without a local church affiliation. The ledger lists Fairweather as belonging to the "Steamship Danby," which is undoubtedly a reference to Denbigh. The blockade runner is variously listed as Denby or Danby in numerous contemporary documents, and the date of Fairweather's unfortunate demise corresponds to Denbigh's first visit to the island city.
